The Asian and Pacific Parkinson’s Disease Association (APPA) was formed in 1997. The Association holds a biennial symposium whose primary aim is to raise the awareness of Parkinson’s disease in the community and to improve the care of patients with Parkinson’s disease in the Asia Pacific region. Since it inaugural meeting in Malaysia, this Symposium has been hosted by Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Australia (2005).

The 6th International Symposium of the Asian and Pacific Parkinson Association (APPA) will be held in Singapore in 2007. It will be jointly organized by the Parkinson’s Disease Society of Singapore and the National Neuroscience Institute. The goals of the meeting are to:

1. To highlight Parkinson’s disease as an important and treatable ageing-related       neurodegenerative disease.
2. To provide education to Parkinson’s disease patients, their care-givers and all       healthcare professionals involved in the care and management of Parkinson’s       disease patients.
